The album, originally released in 1977, was Dave Brock and Robert Calvert's masterpiece that perfectly embraced the influence of the musical New Wave to deliver one of the most effective albums released during Calvert s tenure with Hawkwind. This expanded edition features a bonus CD featuring studio session alternate takes and live recordings by The Sonic Assassins from 1977. Including such classic tracks as Spirit of the Age, Hassan I Sabbah and Damnation Alley , this reissue has been remastered from the original master tapes (a first for any CD issue of this album).

The much heralded return of 80's French Pop superstar F.R. David! Featuring the hit singles "Pick Up The Phone" and "In My Mind". Paris-based singer/composer F.R. David (born Elli Robert Fitoussi on January 1, 1947 in Menzel Bourguiba, Tunisia) is often regarded as a one-hit wonder since he failed to repeat the success of his 1982 monster hit "Words" that topped the charts in a dozen European countries and even peaked at number two in Great Britain. He began his career in the early '70s as a guitarist for Vangelis and later, he was the lead vocalist in the French rock band Les Variations. After the dissolution of the band, he spent five years in the United States working as a studio musician for the Doobie Brothers, the O'Jays and Toto, among others.

Step It Up! Is state of the art zydeco from a masterful performer. Chenier flavors the Red Hot Louisiana Band's double-kick bayou beat with elements of funk, blues and ballads, as well as turning it loose on more traditional zydeco material. The resulting record is loaded with irresistible dance grooves. C.J. contributed six originals to the record and he infuses all tracks with strong, soulful singing and skillful accordion playing. C. J. Chenier is the Creole son of the Grammy Award-winning "King of Zydeco", Louisiana musician, Clifton Chenier. In 1987, Chenier followed in his father's footsteps and led his father's band as an accordion performer and singer of zydeco, a blend of cajun and creole music. With five previous albums to his credit, by 1994, Chenier began to record for Chicago-based Alligator Records.

The Faces were unanthologized on CD prior to 1999, but ever since Rhino's corking single-disc Good Boys…When They're Asleep…, the group has seen a number of different compilations of different sizes, of which Rhino U.K.'s 2012 set Stay with Me: Anthology is the fifth. At two discs, this has 2007's The Definitive Rock Collection as its closest cousin: they're both double discs that cover a tremendous amount of ground, but Stay with Me has a slight edge, weighing in at 36 tracks compared to Definitive's 30. Of those 30 tracks, 27 cuts are present and accounted for on Stay with Me – the missing numbers are "Open to Ideas," "Jodie," and "(I Know) I'm Losing You," the latter two cuts from solo Rod Stewart albums where he was backed by the Faces – and those other nine songs include some of the Faces' very best, including the roaring rocker "That's All You Need," Ronnie Lane's sweet, plaintive "Richmond," and the gloriously shambolic "On the Beach." Serious fans should pony up for 2004's Five Guys Walk into a Bar…, which is one of the great rock & roll box sets, but this double-disc set is like that box in miniature, containing the essence of the Faces in all their messy glory.

Focusing on the '80s, Cleopatra continues to document the history of gothic rock with this two-CD set. Progressing through the discs, the tracks get basically more obscure. Starting off is the pop-goth of the Cult ("Spirit Walker," similar to the Skeleton Family track), then on to the odd, desert goth of Theatre of Hate's "Do You Believe in the Westworld." Fields of Nephilim adds riff-rock goth (&"Blue Water"). With sound ready to open for Psychedelic Furs or Modern English is March Violets. Truly unique is the bouncy, glam goth of Danielle Dax' "Yummer Yummer Man." The obligatory track of '80's goth kings, Bauhaus, is "Passion of Lovers." Other big names in the genre found here include Christian Death, New Model Army, Red Lorry Yellow Lorry, Gene Loves Jezebel and Alien Sex Fiend. Lesser known is a catchy cut from Sexbeat, "Sweat.

Featuring thirteen fresh and original tracks, ‘There And Back’ sees Chris Norman draw on the experience and songwriting panache that have seen him notch up over 20 million albums sales globally. As well as his own hits, Chris has worked with the likes of ABBA’s Agnetha, Donovan, Heavy Metal Kids, Cynthia Lennon, and duetted with Suzi Quattro on the hit ‘Stumblin’ In’. He even created the England football team’s World Cup ’82 hit ‘This Time’, ‘There And Back’ is all about Chris though. This is a collection of dynamic songs and, of course, that wonderful voice is employed to full effect. With an ongoing full diary of live dates across the world, the former Smokie vocalist is in fantastic form with this release which sees him making a whole-hearted return to what he does best.

Classical, Contemporary, Modern Composition

Thomas Larcher s sound world is both original and captivating in its fusion of contemplative harmonies with innovative performance techniques. Written for and performed by tenor Mark Padmore, 'A Padmore Cycle' features the composer at the keyboard. Works for solo piano performed by Tamara Stefanovich round out this programme of first recordings. Born 1963 in Innsbruck, composer Thomas Larcher studied piano and composition in Vienna. He first gained renown primarily as a pianist, performing with major orchestras and prominent conductors such as Claudio Abbado, Pierre Boulez and Franz Welser Möst. In 1998, he began to define himself more clearly as a composer. Since then he has composed works for the San Francisco Orchestra, the BBC Symphony Orchestra, London Sinfonietta, the Belcea Quartet, and for Leif Ove Andsnes, Matthias Goerne, Mark Padmore and Viktoria Mullova and Matthew Barley. He has recorded five CDs with ECM, most recently 'Madhares' with Kim Kashkashian, Till Fellner and Dennis Russell Davies.

On his 1993 Warner Bros. debut, instrumental rocker Gary Hoey plucks and hammers his way through 40 minutes' worth of post-Satriani rock noodling. Despite several attempts at genre-bending blues and soul references, Animal Instinct is all melodic (bordering on adult/soft) rock. The aggressive opener, "Mass Hysteria," and the upbeat shuffle "Texas Son" count as highlights, but the real standout is probably "Drive," a cut that boasts what is clearly the record's finest melody. Hoey plays admirably, and his supporting cast – Tony Franklin (bass) and Frankie Banali (drums) – also provide solid performances. Animal Instinct is a respectable offering for sure, but Hoey doesn't demonstrate a rhythmic or melodic capacity anywhere near that of his obvious influences, Joe Satriani and Steve Vai. Fans of virtuoso guitar rock would do better to search out superior shred material from the likes of Michael Lee Firkins, Tony MacAlpine, and Blues Saraceno before picking up this or any Gary Hoey disc.

The classical conductor Ulrich SOMMERLATTE was more than sixty years old when he fell in love with Progressive rock. Not unlike a certain Eduard ARTEMIEV, who followed a similar path at the same time in the Soviet Union, our man decided to offer his great knowledge to the popular music of that era. Today reissued by the Musea label, "Sad Cypress" has been recorded in 1979 with the help of the Master's son on keyboards, a guitarist-singer, a drummer and a flautist-bassist. The result, as one could expect, is a superb symphonic rock, precious and refined, full of fineness and harmonic tricks. The influences range from GENESIS (above all) to YES, CAMEL and GENTLE GIANT. Add to this that the CD reissue includes four bonus tracks, recorded between 1983 and 1987.

This is a well produced disc with a sharp rhythm section accented by horns on almost every track and sweet backup vocals from the ladies that contrast nicely with Blues Boy's gravelly voice. His vocals are one of the highlights of the album, he often sounds remarkably like B.B. King. The lyrics are on the humorous side, and the opening track "I'm gonna marry my mother-in-law" is quite racy.

Even though Master of Puppets didn't take as gigantic a leap forward as Ride the Lightning, it was the band's greatest achievement, hailed as a masterpiece by critics far outside heavy metal's core audience. It was also a substantial hit, reaching the Top 30 and selling three million copies despite absolutely nonexistent airplay…

Later hailed as one of the key goth rock albums of the '80s and considered by many hardcore Cure fans to be the band's best album, Pornography was largely dismissed upon its 1982 release, witheringly reviewed as a leaden slab of whining and moping. The truth, as usual, is somewhere in between: Pornography is much better than most mainstream critics of the time thought, but in retrospect, it's not the masterpiece some fans have claimed it to be. The overall sound is thick and murky, but too muddy to be effectively atmospheric in the way that the more dynamic Disintegration managed a few years later. For every powerful track like the doomy opener "One Hundred Years" and the clattering, desolate single "The Hanging Garden," there's a sound-over-substance piece of filler like "The Figurehead," which sounds suitably bleak but doesn't have the musical or emotional heft this sort of music requires…
